Introduction to Oasis of Hope cancer treatment

A medical center in Tijuana, Mexico, Oasis of Hope takes a holistic approach to patient care that incorporates a range of alternative therapeutic treatments. Oasis of Hope’s main treatment programs or its "Core therapy" and "Enhanced Therapy."

Oasis of Hope's multifaceted treatment modalities go beyond the limitations of physical care to address the patient’s emotional state and spiritual strength. In addition to attacking cancer cells directly, Oasis of Hope works to strengthen the immune system’s ability to mitigate related toxic threats to healthy cells.

Specific therapeutic measures in Oasis of Hope's programs integrate some traditional cancer treatments, as well as alternative treatment methods such as oxidative stress precondition and cell redox regulation therapy. As a substitute for chemotherapy, Oasis of Hope physicians may recommend high-doses of vitamin C administered intravenously. The IVHDC protocol is based on evidence published by the National Cancer Institute. Oasis of Hope physicians have developed the protocols for 60 years. Results have been published in the Townsend Letter.

Breast Cancer Survivor Lauds

Located in Tijuana, Oasis of Hope is a hospital founded and led by Francisco Contreras, MD. It provides oncology patients from diverse geographies a combination of alternative and conventional therapies. Featured on the Oasis of Hope website, breast cancer survivor patients share their individual stories.
One survivor, Kristen, describes a 2015 breast cancer diagnosis that led to a feeling of profound helplessness. Reading Dr. Contreras’ work Beating Cancer in a single sitting and engaging in prayer and mediation, she became convinced that the alternative treatment approaches described represented a good therapeutic route forward.

Heading to Tijuana from the US, Kristen directly underwent surgery that removed her tumor. The removed tumor provided an effective pathway for designing an individualized dendritic cell vaccine program. At the same time, Kristen benefited from a supportive, uplifting, and spiritual environment in which other patients shared stories and encouragement, and engaged in group activities such as walks along the beach after morning treatment.

Having departed the hospital cancer-free, Kristen has a “100 percent yes” response when asked if she would choose the same therapeutic pathway again.

Empowers People with Tools to LLHL

Oasis of Hope is an alternative medicine practice focused on providing care to patients with chronic illnesses, including cancer. Using natural integrative treatment practices, Oasis of Hope has treated more than 100,000 people from over 50 countries. It has a team of licensed oncologists and physicians led by Dr. Francisco Contreras. Dr. Contreras is featured in the five-episode documentary series "Healthy Long Life" on Amazon Prime Video. The docuseries explores some of the root causes of chronic illness in the United States, chief among them unhealthy diets and obesity. A trailer of the documentary is available on HealthyLongLife.com.

Obesity is defined as having a body mass index of 30 and above. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the country’s obesity prevalence grew from 30.5 percent in 1999-2000 to 42.4 percent in 2017-2018. Some demographics were more affected by obesity. For example, Black adults had the highest obesity prevalence at 49.6 percent, followed by Hispanic adults at 44.8 percent. Obesity prevalence among White adults stood at 42.2 percent. Looking at specific age groups, obesity prevalence was highest among adults aged 40-59 years (44.8 percent) followed by those aged 60 and above (42.8 percent).

Obesity is associated with several chronic conditions including diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Unfortunately, despite the risks, obesity has increased in America, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. A 2021 Harris Poll found that 42 percent of US adults gained weight since 2020, with the average amount of weight added averaging 29 pounds.

The documentary “Healthy Long Life” gives people nutritional insights to support healthy diets and lifestyles. It also introduces people to ancient healing traditions they can use to regain their vitality and live long healthy lives.

Healthy Black Bean & Lentil Burger Recipe

A Tijuana medical clinic, Oasis of Hope, is led by Francisco Contreras, MD, a pioneer in using alternative therapies for fighting cancer. One aspect of the equation involves proper nutrition, accompanied by a healthy level of physical activity each day. The Oasis of Hope site features several healthy recipes with a positive effect on the body.

Among these are black bean burgers that begin with draining and mashing together cooked black beans and lentils (1.5 cups of each). Lentils are naturally high in fiber, and black beans nearly double that fiber content. Also high in protein, lentils benefit the gut and help lower blood sugar levels. Black beans, in turn, are an excellent source of folate and protein and can help avoid the spike in blood sugars common after meals.

For the burger, the mashed legumes are combined in a food processor with ground pecans, herbs, and diced vegetables such as onion, celery, and carrot. One cup of oatmeal flour is gradually added until a consistency emerges that allows patties to be shaped. These patties are best grilled in light oil for around three minutes on each side until golden crisp. Instead of a bun, the burger can be wrapped in a piece of romaine lettuce, with a drizzling of healthy dressing on top.

Carotenoid-Rich Foods Boost Immunity

Based in Tijuana, Oasis of Hope provides a combination of alternative care and conventional allopathic treatment for cancer in its various stages. One of the foundations of the Oasis of Hope protocol (designed by Dr. Francisco Contreras) centers around healthy dietary habits.

These habits are exemplified by a Mediterranean diet that is low in fat and rich in legumes and healthy oils. Such a diet also includes the carotenoids that are present in a variety of fruits and vegetables.

Carotenoids are pigments found in algae and plants. They are easily identified, as they provide the bright red, yellow, and orange hues in growing things. Common examples include oranges, mangoes, cantaloupe, and bell peppers. There are two major groups within carotenoids: carotenes and xanthophylls. Both of these have beneficial antioxidant properties. Associated with eye health, xanthophylls have a yellower pigment and provide protection from excess sunlight. Carotene-rich foods tend to be orange, and some may be converted by the body into vitamin A, which is essential for growth and immune protection.

In addition to protecting healthy eye cells, carotenoid-rich foods help reduce inflammation and boost the body’s protective cells. This can be essential when battling cancer, as carotenoids are positively associated with lowered skin and lung cancer risks.

How Chronic Stress Impacts the Immune

Oasis of Hope is a Tijuana hospital and clinic that attracts patients from around the world through integrative cancer treatments. Combining immunostimulating approaches and nutraceuticals, the Oasis of Hope protocol has been designed by Dr. Francisco Contreras to boost the body’s responsiveness to chemotherapy and effectively fight cancer.

One major control agent that is often neglected when addressing cancer is the immune system. In many cases, an optimally-functioning immune response will prevent cancer from spreading and emerging as a tumor. This reflects the efforts of anti-tumor effectors such as natural killer (NK) cells, which work to eliminate cancer cells even before they are detectable using tumor markers.

Unfortunately, long term chronic anxiety and stress dampens NK activity and opens the door for cancer to take hold. This has to do with how the body allocates finite resources and redistributes them for specific situations it faces. A simple example is how, when mounting a defense to an infection through fever, the body takes energy stores from other parts of the body. The result is that one feels weak and in need of rest.

An example of chronic stress is that which arises when the “fight or flight” mechanism, designed for short term bursts of energy, is prolonged and drains energetic capacity over an unsustainable length of time. Lacking a chance to rest and recuperate, the body’s immune response suffers. Managing stress response is thus a vital pathway toward reenergizing the immune system and focusing the body on its battle against cancer.
